VISALIA: Jewel of the San Joaquin

Welcome to Tulare County! From the rich farmlands to our Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks, there’s a lot to see and do. Tulare County is the world’s leading dairy production region; our annual local agricultural production is valued at more than $4 billion. The only thing more diverse than our local crops is our culture of diverse backgrounds.

Tulare County and Visalia, our County seat, were both founded in 1852, and have vibrant historical pasts. In the 1850’s, as the largest town in California between Los Angeles and San Francisco, Visalia was an important hub for cultural and business activity in Central California.

From it’s location, at the junction of Highways 99 & 198, at the western side of the majestic Sierra Nevada Mountain Range, it is 185 miles south to Los Angeles and 225 miles north to San Francisco. Visalia is located between two major air terminals, Fresno and Bakersfield, with affordable shuttle service between the two airports and Visalia.

Visalia is the perfect blend of prosperous businesses, outstanding shopping centers, friendly neighborhoods, and a breathtaking landscapre. Rugged mountain vistas are the backdrop for this beautiful community with a small town feel.

Visalia’s seasonal weather allows for year-round recreation and entertainment. During the summer months the climate is warm and dry, ranging from 68 degrees to 98 degrees. Winters are mild with low humidity and average temperatures ranging from 37 degrees to 55 degrees. Average annual rainfall is 9.86 inches.

With its picturesque scenery and economic appeal, Visalia is the ideal travel destination. The area has a vast array of accommodations for vacationers, prospective residents. Or the passing traveler. Whether choosing form a number of elegant hotels, and suites, or charming smaller inns, motels or B & B’s, Visalia offers lodging to suit everyone’s taste and pocketbook.

Visalia hosts a wealth of cultural and recreational pursuits and activities. A sampling of the most popular venues includes live concerts, Children’s Theatre, Plays and Musicals, Summer music festivals and concerts, Visalia Oaks Minor League Baseball, 2 Major Shopping Malls, Weekly Farmer’s Markets, Adventure Fun Park, Mooney Grove Park, nightclubs, sports bars and two movie theatres.

Whether this is our first time in our County, or you are a frequent guest, we hope you enjoy your stay.  For more information on lodging, dining, entertainment and tourism go to www.VisitVisalia.org.
