Pacific Employers and the Central California Small Business Development Center (SBDC) take pride in presenting the 2010 Labor Relations Seminar Series.

On December 31, 2009, thirty-three employees of the McDermont Field House and Sports Center in Lindsay were laid off.  The City of Lindsay, which owns McDermont Field House, is using an innovative way to utilize grant funds received by a city grant. All employees laid off are being given the opportunity to start their own business at McDermont Field House.

With the Holiday season quickly approaching there is one holiday that just passed that doesn't necessarily get as much pomp and circumstance as Thanksgiving or Christmas, but is equally as important to millions of people in the United States, Veterans Day on November 11th. On behalf of the entire SBDC staff, I would like to personally thank all the veterans for their service and support.

“Do You Know Where Your Next 1,000 Customers Are Coming From?” asks the Tulare County Library. The Tulare County Library is introducing a new version of “BusinessDecision,” a service for business patrons.  BusinessDecision is a powerful service to help build your business.

Citing recent wildfires in Southern California and several storms impacting coastal regions, the U.S. Small Business Administration is encouraging Americans to be prepared.  Administrator Karen G. Mills reminds the public about the devastating effects of disaster, encouraging everyone to develop and implement disaster preparedness plans.

Successfully managing a business requires specific management skills in addition to knowledge of key business practices.  It is important to be familiar with antitrust laws to protect your business from becoming a victim and also to avoid non-compliance.

 August is an exciting month for the SBDC!  We have a couple of special events planned with our local business owners in mind!

On Tuesday, June 2nd, Lynn Jacobs, Director of the California Department of Housing and Community Development, came to Visalia to speak to local government officials and business representatives from throughout the San Joaquin Valley.  Jacobs’ keynote speech was part of an all-day funding and technical assistance forum held at the Visalia Convention Center.  Nicole Parra with the State of California’s Business, Transportation and Housing agency and Mike Lane with Self-Help Enterprises were co-chairs for the event.

University of California, Merced said its Small Business Development Center Network (SBDC) in Central California had gotten a recommendation for accreditation from the Association of Small Business Development Centers in March.
